Mr. Jerry

Mr. Jerry carried a lot of extra weight on his body for most of the 1980s through the 2000s. In short, he has experience living in varying degrees of obesity as a child, an adolescent, a teenager, a college student, a twenty something, a career person, a husband and a dad. He knows the challenges inherent in being the “heavy kid.” Thankfully, he also understands the challenges of learning to feel fit and live a fit life.

His began a hard way – with a fall that sprained his ankle and fractured his tibia. The challenge of the crutches while in full-time care of an eight month old put into perspective the need to be fit. Once given permission to walk and resume “business as usual,” Mr. Jerry set out to get fit.

Beginning simply enough with a bicycle and wagon, he pedaled and pulled his own weight plus the weight of his two young sons. They went to the science museum, to the parks, just for a ride and more. He added easy stretching to release the good strain he had gained in his muscles. After meeting an intermediary goal, luck struck in the form of a new neighbor. This personal trainer offered to train Mr. Jerry. Through his mentoring and training, Mr. Jerry began to feel fit and live fit. As importantly, Mr. Jerry learned that “Exercise that’s fun get’s done.”

From fitness sprung an opportunity for the at-home dad and former attorney, Mr. Jerry, to create an after school fitness program at his child’s school.

Exercise Like The Animals is a workout program for children. It’s best for ages 3 to 6; however, older children (and adults) still enjoy the movements that give them the freedom to be silly — like Lemur L and Monkey M. Families can have a Playout at home with the book Exercise Like The Animals from A to Z.

Children in preschool, after school, out of school and with no school (at libraries, churches, family functions, and more!) experience Playouts led by one of our certified and trained group fitness instructors. A typical Playout is 25 minutes of multi-planar movement (running, jumping, squatting, crawling and aerobic exercises) all inspired by animals. Children gain confidence, balance and strength in their minds and bodies. They learn about animals with the rhymes that accompany the movements. Children will laugh and have fun. They will get a workout. They will learn.
